Ford Introduces Start-Stop Technology As Ford Fusion Option

The new Ford Fusion is one of the most highly-anticipated new Ford models of the year. It's set to be one of the most fuel-efficient sedans on the market as it is, with a traditional gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain available under the hood of one of the most stylish Ford's we've ever seen. How could Ford possibly make this equation sound ever better? How about start-stop technology?

Well, you got it! For an additional $295, drivers who choose the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine can also add the Auto Start-Stop button to save even more fuel. It boost fuel-efficiency by about 3.5 percent overall, and those who drive in the city can save up to 10 percent. In five years, that can add up to well over $1,000 in fuel!

How does it work? Well, when you're at a stoplight or stuck in traffic, your engine is using gasoline that it doesn't need to be using. With Start-Stop technology, the engine automatically shuts off when the vehicle comes to a stop, and seamlessly restarts when the driver releases the brake pedal. It requires no input from the driver.

Birgit Sorgenfrei, Ford's Auto Start-Stop Program Manager explains, "Idling vehicles are consuming energy without doing any work. They're also producing exhaust gases in a concentrated space that can contribute to air quality problems like smog."1 With the addition of this technology, drivers can easily and efficiently cut back on fuel consumption - without even thinking about it!

When it goes on sale this fall, the all-new Ford Fusion equipped with an EcoBoost engine will deliver an EPA-estimated 37 mpg highway. The Fusion Hybrid will get at least 47 miles to the gallon, and the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid will break the 100 MPGe mark.

So there's really no reason not to love the all-new Ford Fusion. There's a model for every kind of driver! Stop in and see it later this year at Jim Tidwell Ford, 2205 Barrett Lakes Blvd Kennesaw, GA 30144.
