Imagine a car that's as well-designed as the latest Ford Focus and forthcoming Ford Fusion. Now, let's also imagine that it boasts enough room for five people and all of their stuff. Okay, now, imagine that it'll achieve just under 100 MPGe.
Yes, Ford has developed a car that is all of these things. It's called the Ford C-Max and it'll be available for a test drive here at Jim Tidwell Ford later this year.
Available in two powertrain variants, the C-Max is Ford's latest minivan creation. Except, it doesn't really look like a minivan. The car, with hinged rear doors, is based on the platform of the Focus, and all-but completely sidesteps the frumpy stigma of a minivan. And that's on top of the innovative powertrains - both a traditional hybrid as well as a plug-in hybrid variant will be offered here in the United States. Unlike the rest of the Ford lineup, the C-Max will not have a traditionally powered gasoline engine in its lineup.
The 2013 C-Max Hybrid gets an estimated 45 miles to the gallon with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Meanwhile the C-Max Energi (plug-in hybrid), will fully charge in about three hours and will hover somewhere between the 90 and 100 MPGe mark. One tank of gas in the Energi will last about 500 miles - that's more than any other current model plug-in hybrid. The battery will power the car for about 15 miles before switching to hybrid mode. Both models produce about 185 horsepower.
The Ford C-Max has already proven very popular over in Europe, and we can't wait to see what it brings to the American market. Be sure to stay tuned with Jim Tidwell Ford, located at 2205 Barrett Lakes Blvd Kennesaw, GA 30144 to learn more about the C-Max and other forthcoming new Ford models.
